 The general decline of the field salesforce in the industry (except for outsourced field marketing organisations) has made the NAE the obvious entry level into a sales structure. Yet despite being the entry level, it is highly unlikely that this population is new to the workforce, or straight from tertiary education. Instead they probably have 18 months to 3 years’ experience elsewhere, not necessarily in sales or FMCG, and this traditional progression route from field to national accounts no longer exists.
Hence salary reflects a couple of years’ experience, and not raw graduate salary expectations which are on average around £22,000.
