  Sales Director
‘Not all Sales Directors are created equal’ as evidenced by the range of salaries in the Guide. Clearly matching titles can encompass different levels of experience and responsibilities, dependent on company, and yet they can still be described as the same position.
Similarly, it is important to note that specific job titles for the same generic role can vary from company to company. As such this subset of the Guide on salaries exclusively denotes those individuals who are fully charged with heading up the Sales Function in its entirety.
The above said, the average salary of £133,656 is highly representative of a classical FMCG Sales Director in the majority of cases.
Female representation at Sales Director level is low, dropping from 43% at NAM level, down to 23% at Controller, and further reducing to 10% at Sales Director. In simple terms it appears that whilst 4.5 NAMs out of 10 are female at entry National Accounts level, by the time Sales Director level is reached, only one remains. Moreover, male Sales Directors are paid on average 60% more than their female counterparts.
All Sales Directors received a bonus in 2017 and the average amount paid was 30% of salary. Given that the average potential opportunity for bonus was 36%, this is a great result in a challenging trading climate for this population.
  THE SIMMANCE PARTNERSHIP
“39% of Sales Directors benefit from some form of profit share or share scheme.
The car allowance benefit represents a further 10% of salary.
